Innfjorden, Norway, during the World Base Race which is a competition for wingsuit base jumpers. A flier using a “tracking suit” and not taking part in a race rushes off a platform following friends and goes headlow after exit.

“I was not in the competition, and was not using a wingsuit, I was using a tracking suit. The reason the accident happens was down to poor judgement and rushing myself and lack of decision making during the jump, I rushed myself off the jump to follow my friends and went headlow after exit, I immediately tried to correct my body position but over did it , then stalled and started to fall even more instead of tracking/gliding like NY friends, then the slope of the terrain starts to come into play pretty quickly so before I knew it I was at tree level in flight and deployed into the forest. It has made me more more conscientious before the jump and to always remind myself that every jump is different and just because I can fly great on some jumps doesn’t mean I always will and the moment it goes wrong deploy the parachute immediately instead of trying to ‘make it’.”

After landing in the tree some friends came up through the forest to help the flier and handed him a rope and knife. He cut the beaches to free his canopy and stashed it in the bag and climbed down. Miraculously he had no injuries and also no damage to the gear.
