How come you always cut off / cover the end of the videos? I assume they’re sometimes community submitted, but they’re obviously of great quality so I just wondered why it always ends up being cut/ covered at the end. I know you’ve got to show other videos etc, but I just think it covers the video that I’m here to watch. It’s not a dig a GoPro, as I’m a massive fan of theirs, though not owning a GoPro (would love one; many uses for one), just wanted to voice my opinion. 🙂

While skydiving, do you keep the falling sensation the whole time or does it leave after the initial jump?

+Kilo I’m an experienced skydiver. A normal skydive from an airplane, you don’t ever feel like you are falling. The airplane is flying forward normally from 80 to 100 miles per hour. So you get wind hitting you when you leave the plane. It feel like flying, or some say it’s feels like laying on a soft bed with a fan blowing in your face. The air rushing past your ears is very loud. You can’t hear others while your falling.
Now jumping from a helicopter, like this video is different. You do get the feeling of falling. The reason for that is the helicopter is hovering in the air, not moving fast forward like an airplane. you fall down and have no airspeed for about 3 seconds. Once you fall about 3 or 4 seconds, you are freefalling fast enough to feel the air pressure like an airplane exit. At that point it feeling like a normal airplane jump. The same falling feeling is felt from a hot air balloon jump.
+Kilo After you turn loose the rest of the time is spent wondering how to explain the poop in your pants/shorts/wharevers.

Why doesn’t anyone ever wait till their almost to the ground before opening their chutes? 100ft. is plenty of time to slow down.
They need to allow time for the chute to open completely. They also want to allow time to deploy the backup chute if the first one fails somehow.

Does anybody know how much experience you need in terms of jumps before doing a skydive by yourself?
+Wanderlust I don;t know how many exactly, but I do know you need to enter an instructional course and do your first few jumps with instructors holding onto you. After a few of those I believe you get to jump solo
+Wanderlust to free fall solo dive you need an USPA “A” class license. In the US, this usually takes 25 jumps through an AFF (Accelerated Free Fall) program.
I myself am going through it. Costs range from 2300 to 3000 for the program.
BUT! once you have your Class “A” license you can jump from *most any DZ in the world…and it gets a lot more affordable, no more $150 jumps, just a $10-30 plane ticket up.

Just curious, why were they landing on a populated beach and not a private designated safe area where the general public isn’t at risk for being kicked in the head (and killed) when they are landing.
This was Florida and maybe they do things differently in Florida but not very smart if someone isn’t paying attention stands up and impacts an ski diver attempting to land.
In my home State there is a small airport for smaller planes and helicopters (5 miles from my home) that’s a restricted area surrounded by an 8′ chain link fence with posted signs all over the perimeter indicating restricted area Ski diving.
The area is for designated for ski diving landings and the general public isn’t allowed in unless they are ski diving….People sit around outside the perimeter watching but it’s not close enough to pose any risk of injury to them even when there was an over loaded plane that resulted in an accident that killed all the occupants that were said to be going up to ski dive….Crashed after take off

When you skydive, do you feel that sinking feeling in your stomach? Like when going on a drop tower?

only for the first 10 seconds then you feel like your in a hot air ballon i have been skydiving 2 times and i did fine.
Dont know what the guys above me did, but yes, its the same like jumping off a drop tower, as you are accelerating your body. As soon as you’ve got your constant fall speed though (after a few seconds), all you feel is the wind blowing against you as if you’re on a fast motorcycle – and the realization that you are speeding towards the ground of course 😉
It felt very unreal for me and I immediately compared it to a very real google earth vr experience… digital times huh.

My co-worker Steve-O is a real adrenaline junkie! I’ll never forget the time 3 years ago when he signed us up for a ‘HOT XXX Sky-Dive’ in Indonesia on our all-guys’ holiday- AMAZING!
The company hired a prostitute to jump with us; having intercourse mid-air had always been a fantasy of Steve-O’s- and he was prepared to share her on the way down if there was enough time! Unfortunately, it turned out to be some young local girl who started screaming with terror as the plane took off- & it took some pretty damn heavy persuasion to get her to jump at all & not spoil the day. Sadly, she seemed to pass out in mid-air (shortly after Steve-O had done her & blown his load) & we lost sight of her- and the next we heard the Police were questioning us about her death!
Fortunately, out lawyers managed to make the case ‘go away’ and got us out the country sharpish, with no further consequences…

They’re licensed and know what they’re doing. To jump from a helicopter, you need at least a B license, which requires having done at least 50 jumps.
Tandem jumps are generally for people with no experience that will do it as a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and don’t need to take all the ground training and courses actual skydivers have to take.

They inspect their rigs before every jump, and they have a reserve that’s repacked by a certified rigger every few months.

You don’t speak for the majority of the population. Just the height alone would be frightening enough for a person who is not an adrenaline junkie to reconsider.
By the time you reach the point of being allowed to jump out of a helicopter, you’re way more excited then you are scared or nervous.
To step outside of the *Helicopter* at that height must be scary!

For my 13th B-Day I wanna go skydiving! cause I concurred fear of heights finally!And plus there is so much to do and see that some people will never try and they will regret!I think that if you try it once sure it wall be scary I will scream for the first bit but it will be an amazing experience!And then you would wanna do it over and over again!Ima be a risk taker!I know it sounds kinda stupid but Ima get off my couch and get a life!
Depending on where you live, there are different minimum age requirements to make a jump. Make sure you know what the requirements are for your country, because they may require you to be at least 16 or 18.
Even if you’re a few years off from being able to make a jump, don’t lose your enthusiasm about it. The first jump is a completely surreal experience that’s well worth waiting for.

I could skydive easily. However I’m not stupid. My life will not depend on a piece of fabric and strings. I am brave enough though.
I always wonder, what if the parachute doesn’t work? How do they save the person?!
They have a second chute know as a reserve chute that is professionally packed, opens faster, and has a lot less chance of failure. In some rare cases, people also have a third chute(Extraordinarily rare and really only used for cutaway demonstrations as far as I know.) Any skydiver with more than 100 jumps under their belt is sure to have a story where their main chute does not work but the reserve chute not working is extraordinarily rare. When it does not work they die almost 100% of the time.

You have a higher chance dying a banana for that to happen. And usually, for first timers, they get a professional to jump with you guaranteeing a extra chute
