Kössen is something like a cradle to our sport, on a similar level to Mieussy in France, not least because the first-ever World Championships were held here 25 years ago. Since then it has hosted many fine events, and in recent years it has hosted several of these big paraglider “testivals” which have been a great success.
One of the biggest ‘testivals’ of the world, the Super Paragliding Testival, was held in scenic Kaiserwinkl Region for four days in early June 2018. More than 3,000 pilots participated at the tenth year of Kössen testival, rated as one of the largest air sports spectacles in the world, the Super Paragliding Testival. Held at the European Paragliding destination No. 1, Kössen. Leading manufacturers of paragliders, harnesses and instruments, coming from around the globe, showed off their products in what is rated one of the largest air sports spectacles in the world, the Super Testival in Kössen.
The participating manufacturers of the Super Paragliding Testival Kössen provide their products to all pilots and pilot in free of charge for test flights. Four days should cover the needs of the pilots for the extensive testing of different brands. The manufacturers save themselves individual time-and cost-intensive Testivals around the globe and the air sportsmen also benefit from the central possibility to compare different brands at the same time in the same place in the flight.
Kössen Unterberg is situated in a box canyon, making it a perfect spot for paragliding. An updraft of air created by the mountain’s walls keeps paragliders in the air longer. Often the site for paragliding competitions, Kössen’s spectacular mountains and charming downtown look even better from a bird’s eye view. Down the line, it will all be about party, live acts and a fashion show to the entertainment of all. The mountainside facing north and west usually offers best slope conditions and moderate thermal.
Kössen is probably the flight area with the most “fliegbaren” days in the Alps and the highest flight frequency in the world. The Kössen Subberg is well known as an international flight area and has been highly frequented for many years.
Even if hanggliding and paragliding were not directly invented in Tyrol, we still can proudly claim Kössen in the Kaiserwinkl as the cradle and pioneer site of these air sports, where from it launched it’s so successful journey around the globe. The reasons are perfect thermic conditions and a very engaged local club. The climb is easy with the cable car. The infrastructure offers budget accommodation, campsites, flight school, shop and flyersbar offers everything that quickens the pilot’s heart beat faster. Whether acrolein, tracks or just enjoy flying, paragliding holiday in Kössen, every great flight in Tyrol.
Take the cable car up, fly down, swap gliders, do it again. Don’t miss this compilation with the best of the Super Paragliding Testival Kössen!
