What happens if you start your skydiving session and as soon as you jump off the helicopter or plane you realize that there is a bag lock malfunction and then the reserve lines twist? Could you manage this situation? it’s really important during all skydiving sessions not to lose concentration above all in these kind of situations that by the way can occur and it’s important also to react really quickly to face properly these problems. That’s exactly what happened to the skydiver in this video and he gave us a lesson about how to keep calm and stay cool by dangerous situations linked to skydiving activity.

Before to talk more in detail about this situation let’s have a quick overview about who are the skydivers featured in this video. The name of the youtube channel is JOINTHETEEM and behind this project there is a big community of skydivers and extreme sport athletes that have a great passion in living adventurously. They don’t own just a youtube channel but also a website where it’s possible of course to interact with them and to share own stories and experiences. Along with that they have also a shop section where they sell some stuff like stickers or t-shirts about skydiving. Back to their youtube channel, they have a series of video called Friday Freakout. Topic of these videos are the problems that can occur during skydiving performances. The video starts from the beginning of the skysession when the three skydivers are already out of the helicopter or plane and they hold themselves together. At a certain point one of them flies away and after few seconds also the second one goes away on his own. The third one keeps to fall and the camera angles are very impressive because watching the video you have the feeling that you too are falling down as well. Then he starts to wave his arms in the air and this gives a clue that something is not working in the right away.

Normally after all this time the parachute should be opened but what we see is just that the skydiver keeps to fall down. After few seconds he finally opens his parachute but the reserve line start to twist generating a lot of line twists.

Fortunately our skydiver keeps calm and slowly twist himself and in this way he unleashes the line twists and everything is fine.

The description under the video is really interesting because there is the explanation of the problems occured and how it’s possible to solve them. It says that a bag lock malfunction is due to the high speed and to the fact that two lines got caught around the tuck tabs on the d-bag. it’s possible to solve it through a cutaway and then at the end of the description a question is asked: are line twists some kind of malfunction or just a nuisance? Skydiving lovers can answer to this question in different ways but one thing is sure: when things such these happen always keep calm and stay cool.
